7 Definition of Scholarship

The Associate’s Degree Nursing Program at North Idaho College promotes the concept of Scholarship for both faculty and students.

This definition is expanded for nursing faculty and includes:

A. Continuing professional development:

1. 1. Faculty members maintain subject matter competency not only in areas of personal interest, but also in all areas relevant to course goals and objectives.
   2. Faculty members develop and maintain pedagogical skills consistent with course objectives and student needs.

B. Teaching excellence:

1. 1. Development of innovative teaching strategies that are evidence based.
   2. Ongoing evaluation of teaching strategies, curriculum, and content.

C. Professional role modeling/mentoring.
