13 Appeals Committee

PURPOSE

Provide an avenue of appeal for a student who feels a grade or evaluation received was unfair or a decision directly affecting progression in the program was unjust.

FUNCTIONS

Process student appeal requests.

MEMBERSHIP

Structure

Chair:               HPN Associate Dean/Director of Nursing

Faculty:           One (1) instructor from first year course teaching team*

One (1) instructor from second year course teaching team*

Students:        One (1) first year student

One (1) second year student

NIC Rep:         One (1) representative selected by the Vice President of Instruction/Provost

All members vote.  The chair votes only in case of a tie vote.  A tie vote would only occur in the event of absence of one (1) member.

*In case a faculty representative to the Appeals Committee is the primary instructor or advisor of the student who is appealing, another instructor from that specific teaching team will be selected by the Director to serve on the committee for that hearing.

Selection of Appeals Committee Representatives

Chair:              Appointed by position

Faculty:           Recommended at the August Nursing Program Faculty Meeting.

Students:        Request volunteers from each student group with recommendations by faculty from the volunteer group

NIC Rep:         Recommended in August by the Vice President of Instruction

Director makes final selection and appointment.

As needed
