18 Selection, Hiring, and Licensure
North Idaho College operates under a policy of equal employment opportunity and affirmative action.
When a position within the Nursing Division is to be filled, the Associate Dean of Health Professions and Nursing notifies the Dean of Instruction, Workforce Education, as well as the Provost/Vice-President for Instruction. The Vice-President for Instruction then brings it to President’s Cabinet for approval. Human Resources is also notified of the opening and develops a position advertisement following approval by President’s Cabinet.
Position advertisements are announced in the “NICNow,” advertised in appropriate publications, and may be posted on the Internet and mailed to other educational institutions.
Applications for the position are submitted to the Associate Dean of Health Professions and Nursing by the Human Resources Office. The Associate Dean of Health Professions selects members of the hiring committee. The hiring committee evaluates the applications and selects applicants for interview. Applicants are interviewed by a group consisting of the Associate Dean of Nursing and Health Professions and ADN faculty from multiple teaching teams. It is encouraged to have one employee of North Idaho College from outside the Nursing Division also participate on the hiring committee. Each candidate will provide a brief teaching demonstration and respond to established interview questions. Individual interviewers rate the applicant on established criteria and the group discusses the suitability of the applicant to the needs of the program.
The hiring committee provides feedback regarding strengths and weaknesses of the individual candidates. Human Resources will complete reference checks and provide result to the Associate Dean of Health Professions and Nursing, who then makes the final decision regarding offering of the position.
Faculty hire is dependent on background check clearance.
Licensure:
All nursing faculty are required to be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Idaho or compact state. If they provide instruction in the clinical setting in Washington state they must also have an unencumbered RN license in Washington. Documentation of license is to be filed in the office of the Assistant to the Dean and with the Clinical Coordinator on initial employment and with each license renewal.
