B. INJURIES AT WORK

Employees who are injured on the job are required to follow the procedures listed below:

  1. Report the accident immediately to the Director of Nursing and to the Business Office. If the injury occurs at night, notify the Director of Nursing and the Business Office as soon as possible the following day.
  2. The Division Administrative Assistant will contact the Business Office the same day to secure a Notice of Injury Report. This will need to be completed as soon as possible.
  3. Have your doctor and/or hospital send all bills to the State Insurance Fund.
  4. If you are paid compensation by State Industrial Insurance during your period of disability, you must notify the Business Office immediately.
  5. When you have been discharged by your doctor, you must again report to the Business Office to sign a supplemental report.

NOTE: Medical bills and/or compensation will not be paid by the insurance fund if the above steps have not been completed.

C. COLLEGE HEALTH SERVICES

  1. Flu shots are offered yearly. Dates will be announced through electronic communication.

D. HEALTH AND SAFETY CLINICAL REQUIREMENTS 

All faculty employed in a position with a clinical component must maintain written documentation demonstrating that they are current with the health and safety clinical requirements. This includes the following healthcare requirements:

    1. Background check. A national background check is completed through Human Resources.  If faculty have responsibility for teaching clinical in Washington State, they must also complete a Washington State Patrol WATCH check.  If the faculty member is working with vulnerable populations, i.e. patients with mental health concerns, an additional DSHS background check may be necessary.
    2. 2. Healthcare Provider Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification. All faculty are required to maintain current certification in basic healthcare provider cardiac life support   BLS (AHA).  Classes are arranged by the Division yearly if a sufficient number of faculty require re-certification.  Otherwise, locating a class becomes the responsibility of the instructor.

Professional Liability Insurance.  All faculty at NIC are covered by the college liability policy when performing assigned responsibilities.  

    1. Clinical Training Modules. Healthcare facilities require specific annual educational content that must be completed prior to participating in patient care.  Faculty will be responsible to complete the modules and associated tests with the required score.  Faculty need to maintain documentation of completion with required test scores.
    2. Immunizations. Faculty must maintain current in required immunizations as identified in the Clinical Passport Requirements.
    3. Drug Screen.  Some clinical facilities require that faculty have a drug screen prior to working with students in their facility.
