The Associate’s Degree Nursing Program at North Idaho College is dedicated to educational excellence and promoting evidence based practice. This requires that students and faculty have access to current, valid and reliable research and information.
Policy:
The Associate’s Degree Nursing Program works in collaboration with the North Idaho College librarian to ensure that all nursing student resources are current and meet the needs of the Nursing Program. The Library will maintain hard copy nursing books that are current (less than five years old), unless the book is maintained for historic purposes. All historic books will be identified as such.
Procedure:
- Faculty independently request new Library resources. The Program Coordinator serves as the contact for the Library personnel regarding acquisitions and needs. The librarian in charge of acquisitions and collections receives requests from nursing faculty for books or other resources for students. Decisions on purchases of materials are made by the acquisitions librarian after receiving input from the nursing faculty.
- The Curriculum Committee will assign a faculty member(s) to review the library resources annually to ensure that materials are current (less than five years old) and continue to meet the needs of the students.
- All books greater than five years old, unless they are identified as a historic document, will be removed from the Library.
