21 Orientation of New Faculty

A.  Philosophy

Orientation is acknowledged as foundational to effective functioning of faculty.  Orientation is a shared responsibility of the college administration, Chair of the Division, the Director of Nursing          and fellow faculty.

 

B.  Orientation to North Idaho College

An orientation for new college faculty is regularly scheduled for the day preceding return of other faculty for the semester.

 

C.  Orientation to Division

Orientation to the Division of Health Professions and Nursing and to contractual responsibilities of faculty is the responsibility of the Associate Dean of Health Professions and Nursing and the           Nursing Program Coordinator.

 

D.  Orientation to the Associate’s Degree Nursing Program

Orientation to the nursing program and policies and procedures related to the responsibilities specified in the job description for instructor is the responsibility of the Associate Dean of Nursing          and Nursing Program Coordinator with assistance from experienced faculty.  New faculty will be assigned a peer nursing faculty mentor for the first semester.  Clinical orientation will be ar                  ranged in collaboration with the clinical facility.

 

E.  Orientation Checklist
An orientation checklist has been developed as a guide to the new faculty and those responsible for orientation. The orienteer is responsible for noting the date each topic has been completed            and submitting a copy of the completed checklist to the Associate Dean of Health Professions and Nursing as a record.

The checklist identifies the topic, and the relevant documents in the Associate Degree Nursing Program Faculty Handbook.
