8 Program Goals: provide previous program review or accreditation recommendations and describe the actions/progress taken to meet the recommendations.
The following is a synopsis of our past program goals and what we in CITE and Cybersecurity have done to address those past goals.
2017-18 Program Goals Brief:
- Cybersecurity Job Skills and determine feasibility of inclusion in the CITE program.
- Complete. Integrated job skills in new Cybersecurity program in various courses.
- Determine the feasibility of expanding course offering by adding a 3rd instructor.
- Complete. Hired new instructor to teach Cybersecurity Curriculum
- Develop a sustainable strategy for supporting and maintaining lab equipment and IT infrastructure.
- This goal is on-going, but we work with our Technical Advisory Committee on this goal. Along with providing justification for Perkin’s funding opportunities and budget requests to the State of Idaho.
- NIC has our lecture classrooms on their PC replacement program, every five years.
- We request to retain the older pc’s, if not under contract to the recycle vendor, to use in our lab classrooms.
- Develop a sustainable strategy for securing funds associated with instructor continuing education and recertification.
- This goal is on-going, our current funding strategy has not changed. NIC’s Professional Development Policy allows a small amount of funds for training over a three-year time span.
- Options for additional funding of PD and re-certification costs come via an application to Human Resources and only approved after the initial PD funding is allocated. And lastly re-certification and training are funded from the CITE budget, as the budget allows.
2018-19 Program Goals:
- Pursue options for a sustainable strategy to support and maintain lab equipment and IT infrastructure within the CITE department.
- This goal is on-going, but we work with our Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) on this goal. Along with providing justification for Perkin’s funding opportunities and budget requests to the State of Idaho.
- NIC has our lecture classrooms on their PC replacement program, every five years.
- We request to retain the older pc’s, if not under contract to the recycle vendor, to use in our lab classrooms,
- Explore options for a sustainable strategy for funding associated with instructor professional development and certification/recertification.
- Provide online access to 66% (two-thirds) of CITE courses classroom and lab resources.
- We did provide 100% access to all CITE and Cybersecurity courses over the COVID timeframe, roughly late Spring 2019, Fall 2019, and all of the 20-21 SY. SY 22-23 we moved to 40% face-to-face and 60% online.
- Our Network Development Group (NDG) online laboratory system is now online and available to all CITE students 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and over 365 days.
- Our Cisco and Microsoft courses all have 100% online access with their respective LMS’s and NIC’s Canvas LMS.
- Review all course expenses incurred by CITE students for applicability to current programs.
- A. We as a department have revised our student expenses and eliminated unnecessary text books.
- We did add other industry certification test voucher expenses to some of our programs. But due to industry partners changing their requirement for certification and some students don’t take their industry certification exams, we are re-visiting lowering the number of certification vouchers the students purchase, which further lowers their educational costs.
2014 Program Review Team Recommendations:
1. Expand curriculum to include technologies such as VOIP, Wireless, Video Conferencing and mobile device management. Add VMware/Hyper-V management courses.
-
- VMware/Hyper-V, AWS, Dual Authentication, Wireless, and Law & Ethics have all been added to the curriculum. The other areas are not covered specifically in a stand-alone course, but are covered in other courses just not in detail like stand-alone course.
- Our TAC is the voice we look to for changing our program content. The TAC is comprised of local area professionals and we rely on their input to keep our programs current.
- Establish/maintain instructors’ professional development as a budgeting priority.
- NIC is very supportive of PD to maintain our certifications and qualifications.
- Move to improved larger classroom environment.
- Our enrollment has not improved enough to ask for more classroom space. If we had an increase in enrollment we would have to go to the college and request more classroom and lab space.
- We did make a program name change last year in our cybersecurity program and had a 50% increase of first year students (13) from the year before (6).
