39 Review Team: What are program weaknesses/potential threats?

Although an exceptional program, a few weaknesses and/or threats of the AOMT program were discovered:

  • A resource called Virtual Desktop for students was purchased but has yet to be activated by the IT department
  • A lack of robust advertising for AOMT programs
  • GEM courses (general education) are a requirement for some certificates when they are not required by the state of Idaho Department of CTE; this may be affecting the completion numbers for these certificates and ultimately affect outcomes for North Idaho College
  • Recent reduction in dual credit participation and enrollment with some area high schools due to their lacking the value of CAOT courses; should this trend continue, it will pose a threat to enrollment for the program
  • Student feedback relayed frustration with a lack of communication between teacher and student for online non-CTE courses, specifically Marketing and Math
  • Catalog stated that the CAOT Career Leadership course and CAOT Living Online course was offered every summer, fall and spring, yet when student went to register, realized it was only offered during the fall
  • Student feedback relayed a request for additional Google training such as Google docs beyond what is currently offered, as that skill was needed for her internship and current job
