34 Instructional Equipment
Briefly describe instructional equipment, laboratory equipment, etc., used by this program.
Instructional and Laboratory Equipment
The Administrative Office Management Technology program utilizes a range of equipment to support both in-person and online learning:
- Hedlund 147 (Computer Classroom):
- 24 student computers
- One instructor workstation
- One printer
- General Equipment: All classrooms are equipped with instructor computers, internet access, beam projectors, and sound systems to ensure that presentations and in-class activities run smoothly.
- Virtual Desktop System: A virtual desktop system was purchased approximately one year ago; however, IT has not yet implemented it for student use. Once activated, this system will provide students with access to Office 2021 and Adobe Acrobat Pro DC. These tools are critical for hands-on practice and will enhance students’ digital proficiency and readiness for modern administrative environments.
- Online Learning Resources: In addition to on-campus resources, the program is fully online. Students typically use their own devices and internet access for coursework, which allows for a flexible, self-paced learning environment. When needed, campus resources are available during scheduled in-person sessions, enhancing the overall educational experience.
Together, these resources create a robust learning environment, ensuring that AOMT students have the technology and tools necessary for effective learning and practical experience.
Is existing equipment adequate to meet the current and future instructional demands of the program? Please explain.
Not yet. The virtual desktop system, once implemented, will significantly strengthen the program’s support infrastructure by enabling students to work with contemporary software while preserving the flexibility for both in-person and remote learning. Meanwhile, the current equipment—including a dedicated computer classroom (Hedlund 113), general classroom technology, and students’ personal devices for online learning—is sufficient to meet the AOMT program’s instructional demands now and in the future. In addition, the NIC Helpdesk checks laptops out to our students if needed for the course.
Describe equipment funding strategies such as State, Perkins, student fees, etc.
Equipment Funding Strategies
The program’s equipment is funded through a variety of strategies, which include:
- State of Idaho Funding: State allocations provide financial support for purchasing essential instructional equipment.
- One-Time Grants: Special grant opportunities contribute to funding specific equipment purchases or upgrades.
- Federal Perkins Funds: Federal funding designated for career and technical education programs supports the procurement of technology and lab equipment needed for the program.
- Student Fees: Certain fees, such as those collected for certification exams and subscriptions, help offset the costs of maintaining up-to-date instructional resources.
These funding strategies ensure that the AOMT program is consistently equipped with the necessary tools to meet instructional demands and prepare students for successful administrative careers.
