4 Professional Development Plan (PDP)

The state requires you to provide a PDP plan every time an application is sent to the state. The plan describes your “plan” for professional development during your three-year (LOS) or five-year (SOS/AOS). Typically, you can choose what your professional development will be; however, the LOS has specific college classes you will take. You will also have a Pre-Service Academy (name is in the process of being changed) and First Camp you must complete before certification.

The two universities that offer the approved college classes are University of Idaho (UofI) and Idaho State University (ISU). ISU offers a $5 per credit agreement with NIC. Faculty have funds available for professional development from two different sources (Office of Instruction & HR) at NIC, regardless of which university you choose.

IDCTE has prefilled PDP forms on its website under the Educator Certification page in the lower left corner or see Chapter 1 of this ebook.

  • The courses can be used toward a UI MEd or BSEd in Career and Technical Education
  • The UI offers up to 32 credits for experiential and career learning experiences toward the UI BSEd in CTE
  • All courses can be completed online

Idaho State University

  • All courses can be completed online

ISU no longer does paper PDP forms. They use a workflow process. The link for initial certification https://na3.docusign.net/Member/Initial certification

  • Local Supervisor is who is approving your PDP. More than likely, this will be your division chair.
  • CTE applicant requires two different emails. This is a backup to make sure you get it.
  • WARN your supervisor that this is coming. It can look like spam when it gets to their email. Workflow works by electronically sending the document to each signer in the process. Once the document has all the signatures, you will receive a copy for your records. We will add it to our postsecondary specialist packet.

There is another link for renewal. https://na3.docusign.net/Member/Renewal

PDP Plan breakdown

ISU workflow will be prefilled in with some of this information. However, this section will explain the different areas of the PDP form.

  1. These are the dates that the PDP covers for the LOS. The LOS is valid for three years.
  2. Fill out your basic information. You will be applying for a LOS.
  3. These are the activities you will complete in the next three years. You will take four college classes, complete Pre-Service Academy (name is in the process of being changed) and attend First Camp.
  4. Get the appropriate signatures. Remember you will not use this form for ISU. Your local supervisor is usually your division chair. Make sure you sign it. You will include the finished copy with your postsecondary specialist packet.

Final Step: Mark the “completed and signed professional development plan (PDP)” checkbox complete on Page 1. Check out the next chapter on industry certifications for the next step.
