Introduction

Congratulations on being hired by NIC as a full-time instructor of a CTE program. All CTE full-time instructors are required to be certified by the Idaho Division of Career Technical Education (IDCTE) https://cte.idaho.gov/. This process can be overwhelming for new instructors. We hope that this ebook will help guide you through the process of becoming certified. Please note this ebook is for first-time instructors who have never been certified at the secondary or postsecondary level with IDCTE.

Your journey will consist of:

  • Limited Occupational Specialist (LOS) – Everyone starts here until they have met the current certification requirements. This non-renewable certificate is valid for three years.
  • Standard Occupational Specialist (SOS) or Advanced Occupational Specialist (AOS)– After you have met the requirements of the LOS, the state will look at your years of experience, your education, etc., and award you either an SOS or AOS. Both certifications are valid for five years and require the equivalent of six credits for renewal. Certifications are typically valid from September through August.
