GEM Council

What is GEM Council?

GEM Council is a committee of general education faculty overseen by the Dean of Transfer and General Education. The council reviews new general education course proposals to ensure they meet Idaho State Board of Education policy III.N – Statewide General Education. They utilize a rubric to evaluate the following dimensions: orients and introduces students to the discipline, widely accessible regarding pre-req/co-requisites, course outcomes are aligned to state GEM competencies, and appropriate assessments of student achievement are utilized (regular, multiple, and linked to state competencies). The GEM Council course review takes place prior to curriculum council review.
