22 Dual Credit

North Idaho College’s Dual Credit program offers high school students the opportunity to begin working on their college degrees while still in high school. Dual credit courses are transcribed on student’s high school and college transcripts. Through dual credit, students enroll in NIC college-level classes at a significantly reduced tuition rate.

The dual credit office will notify the division of courses to add to the schedule. Chairs will work directly with the dual credit office for any questions regarding scheduling.

As high school instructors desire to teach an NIC course, the dual credit office will provide the division chair application materials: cover letter, principal’s endorsement, and transcripts. Chairs will review the materials and determine if the instructor meets the qualifications (the applicant should have some coursework in the discipline or a closely related discipline that they are seeking to teach). If the chair deems a high school instructor disqualified, please discuss the decision with the dean. Divisions have successfully worked with marginally qualified candidates to get them up to speed through additional mentoring and support. NIC is seeking to re-establish relationships with our local high schools. Decisions to deem an applicant disqualified should not be made lightly.

Once high school faculty are approved to teach an NIC dual credit course, the division chair will identify a mentor which is a NIC faculty member that knows the assigned curriculum.
