7 Program Goals: provide previous review or accreditation recommendations and describe the actions/progress taken to meet the recommendations:
FA18 Program Review Recommendations:
- History program should proactively make use of the Social Sciences Practicum to foster student community engagement
- Cross-list Philosophy World Religions course with History
- Offer the HIST-223 course or other local History course at least once every four semesters
- Department of History should offer a women’s History course
- Recommend a full time dual credit coordinator college wide, for evaluating and monitoring dual credit instructors
- History Program Guidelines page in the NIC catalog needs to include American Sign Language in the list of recommended languages
- The History department needs to better promote foreign languages as part of its recommended course offerings
- History department needs to take advantage of all outreach opportunities to promote their program. Planned History department brochures are a good step in this direction.
- History faculty needs to continue to monitor the balance between face to face and online course according to student needs
- Recommend that the History department maintain the integrity of the 200 level courses
- Re-evaluate the need for the prerequisites for all 200 level History courses except HIST-290
Actions/progress taken to meet FA18 review recommendations:
- History and Philosophy faculty will discuss cross-listing Philosophy World Religions course with History
- HIST-223 course has been eliminated due to diminished enrollment/student interest
- History department has not incorporated a women’s history course due to diminished enrollment/no student demand beyond GEM 6 history courses. Current 200 level courses are not being offered; also, with no qualified faculty to teach the course, creating such a course has been tabled until enrollments rebound, justifying running a search for qualified adjunct faculty
- A full-time dual credit coordinator college wide has been recommended
- History department will be addressing adding American Sign Language in the list of recommended languages for History program guidelines page in the NIC catalog
- History department still needs to address promoting foreign languages as part of its recommended offerings
- History department has begun process of creating program brochures/course flyers as well as conducted recent media coverage promoting the history program
- History faculty are in process of monitoring balance between face to face and online course offerings. This has resulted in online demand outpacing the demand for face to face offerings significantly, and both of which increasingly trail dual credit course on high school campuses
- 200 level History courses in the catalog can still be taught by current NIC History faculty should enrollment/student demand rebound
- History department has re-evaluated the need for prerequisites for all 200 level history courses, except HIST-290
