Math Program Review 5-year Action Plan

 

Based on the recommendations provided by the review team, here’s a five-year action plan starting Fall 2024 for the NIC math department along with a timeline for implementation:

 

Year 1:

  1. Communication Strategy Implementation (First 6 months):

– Work with the marketing and communication office to develop a consistent message from department faculty and staff regarding the accreditation situation.

– At the administrative level create communication channels such as emails, newsletters, and informational sessions to ensure all students receive the message.

– Train faculty and staff on how to effectively communicate the message to students.

 

  1. Faculty Compensation Review (Next 6 months):

– Conduct a comprehensive review of faculty compensation to identify areas where additional compensation is warranted for added tasks.

– Explore options for reallocating resources or seeking additional funding to support better compensation for faculty.

– Develop a proposal for adjusting compensation structures and present it to relevant stakeholders for approval.

 

Year 2:

  1. Dual Enrollment Offerings (First 6 months):

– Assess the current dual enrollment offerings and identify areas for measured and limited expansion based on student demand and workforce needs.

– Recruit and train qualified instructors for dual credit courses, ensuring they meet quality control standards.

– Develop partnerships with local high schools and community organizations to increase awareness of dual enrollment opportunities.

 

  1. Quality Control Measures (Next 6 months):

– Implement a system for mentoring, monitoring and evaluating dual credit instructors to ensure they maintain high-quality instruction.

– Provide ongoing professional development and support for dual credit instructors to enhance their teaching skills and subject knowledge.

– Establish protocols for addressing issues or concerns related to dual credit courses in a timely manner.

 

Year 3:

  1. Interdivisional Communication Improvement (First 6 months):

– Establish regular communication channels with other divisions, mainly the Natural Science division, to coordinate course scheduling and avoid overlapping course offerings.

– Develop a centralized scheduling system or software to facilitate communication and coordination between divisions.

– Encourage collaboration and cooperation among faculty and staff from different divisions to optimize course scheduling.

 

  1. Quality Assurance Review (Next 6 months):

– Conduct a comprehensive review of course schedules to ensure there are no conflicts or overlaps.

– Solicit feedback from faculty, staff, and students regarding the effectiveness of the improved communication and scheduling processes.

– Make adjustments or improvements to the communication and scheduling protocols based on feedback and evaluation findings.

 

Year 4:

  1. Continuous Improvement (First 6 months):

– Continuously monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the communication strategies, faculty compensation adjustments, dual enrollment expansion, and scheduling improvements.

– Identify areas for further refinement or enhancement based on feedback and evaluation data.

– Implement changes or modifications as needed to improve outcomes and address any remaining challenges.

 

  1. Stakeholder Engagement (Next 6 months):

– Engage stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, and campus community members, in the ongoing improvement efforts.

– Seek input and feedback from stakeholders on their experiences and perceptions of the changes implemented by the math department.

– Incorporate stakeholder feedback into future planning and decision-making processes.

 

Year 5:

  1. Sustainability Planning (First 6 months):

– Develop a sustainability plan to ensure that the improvements made by the math department are maintained and built upon in the future.

– Identify key stakeholders and resources needed to sustain the progress achieved in communication, faculty compensation, dual enrollment, and scheduling.

– Establish mechanisms for ongoing evaluation and refinement of departmental initiatives to ensure long-term success.

 

  1. Final Evaluation and Reflection (Next 6 months):

– Conduct a final evaluation of the five-year action plan to assess the overall impact on student outcomes, faculty satisfaction, and departmental effectiveness.

– Reflect on lessons learned and identify areas for future growth and improvement.

– Document successes and challenges encountered during the implementation process to inform future planning efforts.
