10 Faculty Credentials
Define the required faculty credentials for faculty teaching this program.
Per NIC Policy on Faculty Employment (3.02.08), to be employed at North Idaho College, the institution normally requires a master’s degree in the academic subject matter for which the faculty opening exists.
Within the Mathematics Department, full-time instructors are required to have at least a master’s degree in one of the following areas:
- Mathematics
- Statistics
- Mathematics Education
Part-time and dual credit instructors are expected to have these credentials as well.
Dual credit instructors in the high schools are required to undergo an intensive and personalized mentoring process. One of the full-time math faculty receives a stipend from the Dual Credit office to mentor all dual credit math instructors.
Percent of full-time faculty with the required credentials
As of Spring 2024, 100% of the full-time instructors possess the required credentials.
Percent of part-time faculty with required credentials
As of Spring 2024, 100% of the part-time instructors possess the required credentials.
Discuss the trends (e.g. changes in full-time to part-time ratio; special appointment versus tenure track positions)
Over the past four years, the full-time faculty head count has decreased by three. This has been due chiefly to retirements but also to other employment opportunities. Part-time faculty head count has also decreased by three. Both these decreases correlate with a drop in enrollment. At the same time, the full-time faculty to part-time faculty ratio has doubled.
Please describe whether you are able to readily hire faculty with appropriate qualifications and credentials when needs arise.
All full-time faculty searches have produced at least two qualified candidates.
Please describe any exceptions made to hiring requirements.
Exceptions have been made in the case of some part-time faculty hires where professional experience or more distantly related academic qualifications have been deemed appropriately supportive to the courses being served.
