3 What needs does this program serve in meeting the mission, core values, and strategic plan of the college?
The Psychology program directly relates to the college mission and core values by supporting student learning and success through the delivery of high-quality instruction and advising by qualified instructors with of variety of specializations and experience. The program meets the diverse educational needs of students, employers, and transfer institutions by offering one of the most commonly matriculated courses on this campus: Introduction to Psychology. Concepts covered in the Introductory course support institutional values by encouraging student success through teaching about memory systems (which students can apply to their academics) and diversity (as a GEM 6 Course).
The Psychology program has contributed to a number of state and college level initiatives. This includes faculty participating in the newly developed First Year Experience program at NIC, offering accelerated courses in multiple formats, submitting GEM 6 data, and expanding online offerings and some courses.
